The colossi of Memnon, two gigantic statues standi...

The colossi of Memnon, two gigantic statues standing 18 metres tall, once stood in front of the Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep lll (1388-1348BC) near Luxor. The temple was destroyed by floods and earthquakes in ancient times. The statues have been re-erected, but any remaining blocks from the temple were possibly used by Ramses ll and his son to build their own temples.
