A tropical thunder storm, common in Highveld summers, about to hit Soccer City Stadium, still under construction. When complete the 94,700 seater stadium will be the biggest in Africa and will play host to the opening match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on June 11, 2010 and the final on July 11, 2010. The stadium design reflects a calabash, or African pot. The calabash, or ‘melting pot of African cultures’, sits on a raised podium, on top of which is located a ‘pit of fire’.
