Children at an orphanage in Kisumu, Kenya where they are cared for by widows: Although the Ministry of Health in Kenya says the number of new Hiv/Aids infections is declining due to numerous interventions at various levels, the figures belie the suffering of the children whose lives have been affected by loss of parents and guardians from Aids. There is increasing number of orphans and vulnerable children arising from the impact of Hiv/Aids with no one to care for but their underage siblings, resulting in child headed households or by their old grandparents.
