Signs reading ‘Miya the Boss’ and ‘Now is the Time’, a popular struggle slogan of the early 1990s, set the theme for Miya’s ‘peace garden’ on his plot. This squatter settlement was established on the site of the old municipal dumps at the time of the Barcelona olympic games. This is an example of how people would initially stake out large plots in newly forming camps, allowing them to have space for a garden. Miya also boldly advertises his carpentry and building service on signs scattered around his ‘peace garden’. He has utilised materials found on the former dump site to create his garden
