Fifteen-year-old Dinah Mashiana painting the back wall of the family home on Sterkstroom farm in the Middleburg district: Dinah has just emerged from puberty seclusion where she was taught the finer arts of painting and beadwork. Since the photograph was taken, the family has been evacuated from the farm and sent north to the homeland.
