Black and white photograph of a section of the wall of the temple at Dendera, Egypt. 1857. Dendera, or Dendara, was an important site from predynastic times on and is known for its temples to Hathor and Isis. Epigraphic studies of the area began in 1865 and an archeological survey was conducted by William Flinders Petrie in 1897-98.
