The mission's history in Madagascar. Missionary Røstvig and missionary Valen. These two men initiated the mission in the harsh area of Tulear in Western Madagascar. Røstvig wrote: "When" Eleazar "departed on Sept. 23th (1867), we were standing on the beach and saw the dear ship, which for seven months had been our home, sail away with our brothers and friends, while we lonely and perplexed in almost every respect had to be back... "the two other West-Coast missionaries were due to stay in Ranompasy a few days' longer journey to the north
