Journée Internationale de la Femme – Cameroun 2009

Designed for the 2009 International Women’s Day in Cameroon, this fabric features a number of repeating images of women doing everyday activities on a pink background patterned with subtle butterfly designs. The center of the main circular emblem features a woman standing in front of the outline of Cameroon in which you can see the Cameroonian flag. The woman is pouring out a jug and the liquid fills bowls that list important roles and names for women. Around this image are several other images arranged in a circle. The images feature a female judge, a woman sewing clothes with a man in the background holding a baby, a woman talking on a cellphone holding a camera, a woman cooking over a fire, a woman in a wheelchair working at a computer, a female athlete in mid-long jump, a female teacher in front of a blackboard that reads “Prévenir la violence sexiste à l’école” (Translation: Inform about gendered violence at school), female researchers and doctors, two women sitting at a desk in an office, and a woman giving a gift to a little girl. The banners around the central emblem are held up by doves on each side. Another large circular emblem features a woman smiling and embracing a young boy. The smaller circular images that weave between the larger emblems show several everyday scenes: a couple dancing, a woman holding a sign that reads “Ce jour du 08 Mars: Dignité, Responsabilité, Sérieux” (Translation: This day, the 8th of March: Dignity, Responsibility, Serious), a woman milking a cow, a woman driving a school bus, a woman talking on the phone, a tractor plowing a field, a woman wearing a traditional headpiece and playing a traditional instrument, a women selling grains, eggs, oil, fish, and bananas, an electrician fixing a light pole, and woman braiding another woman’s hair. The lower border features a floral pattern of pink, white, and black where banners show the names of the regions of Cameroon and important female qualities.
