Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive - Cultural Foundation of the National Bank Of Greece

In the 1960s, two young friends, Manos Haritatos and Dimitris Portolos, start collecting anything printed on paper as well as various objects. On an August evening in 1964, ELIA acquired its name and logo, a kantharo, a type of ancient Greek vase, designed by Manos Haritatos. About twenty years later, in 1980, they founded the association under the name Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive, more widely known as ELIA. With personal passion, constant effort, a lot of work, but mainly thanks to their passion for modern and modern Greek history and literature, they managed to save archives of historical figures and writers, rare books, magazines and newspapers, photographs, maps, sheet music, theater programs , objects, ephemeral material.
