Ama Ata Aidoo, Ghanaian writer
Ama Ata Aidoo (1942-2023) was a Ghanaian playwright, author and activist. The New York Times wrote that Aidoo "was hailed as one of Africa's leading literary lights as well as one of its most influential feminists". She was secretary for Education in Ghana from 1982-83, and her first play was published in 1965 making her the first published female African dramatist. Aidoo is considered a major voice of post-colonial Africa. This list includes a few of her publications, including poetry and short essays.
