The Weekly Review

The Weekly Review

The Weekly Review Ltd.

The Weekly Review was founded and edited by Hilary Ng’weno with a goal to change the way Africa was reported (other than through a Western lens). The magazine provided a critical perspective on government actions and policies, and held those in power accountable. Styled after The Economist, with no bylines and writing styles synchronized to present a uniform, distinctive style—it was impossible to tell who wrote what story from the names on the magazine’s masthead. This Kenyan news magazine ran from 1975 to 1999 and was published by The Weekly Review Ltd. The physical collection is housed at the Hilary Ng'weno Center for East African Media Research at The School of Information Sciences at Moi University, Kenya.
