In this film, 1977 was the year the East African Community collapsed; after which Tanzania shut its borders with Kenya. Tanzania's closure of the border prompted Kenya to pull out of the remaining common services. By May, all community services had ground to a halt as all member states failed to remit funds to the community headquarters in Arusha.
