This 2-part documentary follows the travels of Dolly Rathebe in 1998, beginning with her first stop in Vancouver and later Indiana University.
Dolly Rathebe (1928-2004) was considered the South African Billie Holiday and the African Marilyn Monroe. Drum magazine picked her to feature on its front cover in 1957 and she starred in the 1949 British-produced movie, Jim Comes to Jo'burg - the first film to portray urban Africans in a positive light. Rathebe later became a lead singer with two popular township bands, the Harlem Swingsters and the Inkspots.
