A fairly large number of Saldanha-based trawlers were forced to take shelter in Table Bay this week because of the high winds at sea. According to port officials the vessels were all wooden pelagic catchers and their skippers had indicated that the off-shore area between Saldanha and Cape Town had been hammered by south-easterly winds of up to 70 knots. Table Bay itself was lashed by a gale with gusts of up to 55 knots.
