Natal rugby captain Wynand Claasen yesterday swopped planting tries for planting trees. Flanked by Patti Smit (left) and Mary-Ellen Roberts, Wynand throws soil on one of two pin oaks which were planted at a Newlands hotel. The oaks were planted to replace two ancient English oaks, which were cut down in January, victims of a fungus which will "inevitable" mean death for pretty well all of "Newlands" famous oaks, planted by Simon Van Der Stel in the 17th century, according to Mr Brian Gohl, director of Cape Garden Services.
