Cargo shipped and landed in Cape Town last year was another record for this port - 5,652,609 tons, a gain of 180,663 tons - though Durban's total of more than 17,500,00 tons was greater than the totals of the country's five other major ports. More ships - 6,646 - called at Cape Town than Durban (4,418), but the tonnage going to Durban was nearly 4m. more.
