Letter from George W. Ellis to W. E. B. Du Bois

1909

Ellis sends to Du Bois a copy of a letter by D. E. Howard, Secretary of Treasury and Chair of the True Whig Party. The enclosed material from Howard was written January 29th, 1909 from Monrovia Liberia, and is a response to an open letter on "The Problems before Liberia" by Doctor Blyden. Howard's note to Ellis indicates that although Blyden's piece was given as a lecture, Howard's response is to the open letter itself. Howard addresses issues of race, politics and appropriate leaders in Liberia.
