Black and white photograph of the smaller of two temples on the site. 1857. Erment or Armant, known in ancient times as Hermonthis, is a site southwest of modern-day Luxor. It was the cult center of the god Montu. The temple complex, possibly destroyed by the Persians, was rebuilt in the reigns of Nektanebo II and the Ptolemaic rulers, including Cleopatra VII (better known for her relationships with Roman generals Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony).
