Black and white photograph showing a female European missionary wearing a cape and hat, dressed as Santa Claus. She also wears a false beard, eye brows and moustache. A young European girl stands next to her. Two small Nigerian girls sit and play with toys on her knee. Another Nigerian girl and a male European missionary can be seen in the background. From the context of another photograph, the missionary dressed as Santa Claus is a Miss Holgate. This image may have been taken at the Ama Achara Hospital run by the Primitive Methodist Missionary Society. This image comes from a photograph collection kept by Emily Godfrey, Matron of the Methodist Hospital at Ama Achara, southeast Nigeria, from 1921 to 1944.
