Woman spinning cotton, Nigeria, ca. 1932

Black and white photograph of a bare chested Nigerian woman spinning cotton photographed on the road to Amagunze, Enugu state, Nigeria. She carries a bowl with fruit or vegetables balanced on the top of her head. In one hand she carries a spindle with cotton thread wrapped around it, and in the other hand he carries a ball of raw cotton. The caption to this image reads: "On road to Amagundze [Amagunze]. Woman spinning cotton." This photograph was pasted into one of a series of exercise book albums created by Emily Godfrey, Matron of the Ama Achara Methodist Hospital, run by the Methodist Missionary Society.
