Women workers at leper colony, Nigeria, 1944

Black and white photograph featuring a group of women workers for the Methodist Missionary Society at their leper colony at Uzuakoli, southeast Nigeria. The missionaries stand in front of a building with a corrugated iron roof. The women wear smart white dresses (probably uniforms) or patterned dresses. A motor car can be seen in the background. The caption next to this image reads: "Women workers. Taken at Leper Colony - Dr Ross' house. Jan 1944. Day of colony meeting." This photograph was pasted into one of a series of exercise book albums created by Emily Godfrey, Matron of the Ama Achara Methodist Hospital.
