Black and white photograph printed on a postcard showing a tug of war match at the Uzuakoli Institute, run by the Church Missionary Society (C.M.S). Two groups of young Nigerian men play tug of war, whilst they are refereed by a male European missionary (in shirt, trousers and pith helmet) and a Nigerian teacher. The caption on the reverse of the postcard reads: Uzuakoli Institute sports day 1924." The C.M.S founded the Institute in 1923, and it was later renamed Methodist College. This image comes from a photograph collection kept by Emily Godfrey, Matron of the Methodist Hospital at Ama Achara, southeast Nigeria, from 1921 to 1944.
