Groups of people awaiting injection for yaws, Nigeria, ca. 1932

The boy has white marks on his arm, suggesting the bacterial disease yaws. The group await injections for diseases dispensed by staff of the Primitive Methodist Missionary Society (later the Methodist Missionary Society) on visits to areas in southeast Nigeria. The caption to this image reads: "Groups of people awaiting injection for yaws etc. Akpugo Agbani circuit." This photograph was pasted into one of a series of exercise book albums created by Emily Godfrey, Matron of the Ama Achara Methodist Hospital.
