Calabar Family, Calabar, Nigeria, ca. 1930-1940

Tinted lantern slide showing a Christian family in front of a thatched dwelling in Calabar. The father wears trousers, a smart shirt and holds a pith helmet (there also seems to be a pith helmet on the roof). His wife sits with a young child on her knee, and wears a smart dress, pearls and a hat. Two young girls stand in shifts at the front of the picture. This slide comes from a set on mission, culture and industry in Calabar, southeast Nigeria generated by the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church of Scotland (which was incorporated with the Church of Scotland in 1929.)
