Young Man in Kaputa village wearing a shirt highlighting the upcoming national elections, with portrait of Zambia's President

1983

Strictly speaking, Zambia in 1983 was a one-party state, with President Kenneth Kaunda standing for election unopposed. The shirt was cut and tailored from a citenge (decorated two-meters long cloth), and it exhorted people to "Vote Yes" for the President and his party, UNIP (United National Independence Party). 6842-06 Kaputa: At Chiefs, also / at Shikapya plus friends, / October 1983 Canadian Camp / Chishele Chuulu 1983
