Crowd at church opening, Nigeria, ca. 1936

Black and white photograph showing crowds at the opening of a Methodist church in Nboro in modern Abia state, Nigeria. The building is brick-built with a corrugated iron roof, with roof support columns around the outside. The crowd is mainly made up of Nigerian children. This photograph was pasted into one of a series of exercise book albums created by Emily Godfrey, Matron of the Ama Achara Hospital, a general hospital run by the Methodist Missionary Society.
