Black and white photograph taken at the hospital run by the Primitive Methodist Missionary Society at Ama Achara, southeast Nigeria. The image shows Emily Godfrey, first Matron of the hospital, holding a baby in her arms. A small girl stands by her feet. Godfrey is pictured with a Nigerian nurse, Sarah, who holds the hand of a small girl. The baby that Emily Godfrey carries is called Godwin, and the child at her feet is called Miriam, an abandoned twin brought to the mission hospital at five months. The child with Sarah has been named Ruth. This photograph was pasted into one of a series of exercise book albums created by Emily Godfrey, Matron of the Ama Achara Methodist Hospital.
