Black and white lantern slide showing a group of King's African Rifles on campaign. The group is mostly made up of native African soldiers (known as "Askari"), and a European officer can be seen at one side of the image, wearing shorts, shirt and pith helmet. Some troops stand to attention with their rifles over their shoulders, whilst others lean more casually on them. The troops wear the First World War uniform of the King's African Rifles: khaki shirt and shorts, puttees and a khaki pill-box hat with a dark band and geometric shape, stating their number. This slide comes from a set on the activities of the King’s African Rifles battalions in Nyasaland. It was originally held by the Church of Scotland, and generated by J.W MacKay.
