Photograph of the ordination of the first three pastors of Livingstonia, Malawi. The three pastors are seated with Dr Robert Laws and two other Missionaries standing behind. The group are pictured outside a red brick church. Red brick buildings are characteristic of Livingstonia. Livingstonia was founded in 1894 by missionaries from the Free Church of Scotland. This belongs to a series of Church of Scotland Foreign Missions Committee lantern slides relating to Dr Robert Laws (1851-1934) the Scottish Missionary. In 1875, inspired by David Livingstone (1813-1873), Laws travelled to Malawi and was involved in the foundation of the mission station of Livingstonia on the shores of Lake Nyasa. During the succeeding 50 years he also established a network of hundreds of schools. In 1908 Laws was elected moderator of the General Assembly of the United Free Church of Scotland.
