Shaving a Head, Malawi, ca. 1914-1918

Black and white tinted lantern slide featuring a soldier from the King's African Rifles shaving the head of a man squatting on the ground. The two men are in front of a thatched hut, with the soldier's equipment laid out on the ground. The soldier is in uniform, whilst his companion wears a white garment. It is possible that the man having his head shaved is a new recruit to the King's African Rifles. This slide comes from a set on the activities of the King’s African Rifles battalions in Nyasaland. It was originally held by the Church of Scotland, and generated by J.W MacKay.
