Compound, Nyasaland, Malawi, ca. 1914-1918

Black and white lantern slide showing a yard created inside three sides of a brick built compound. Children sit in the yard and chickens can be seen at its centre. The compound is single storey, with a door and high window in each dwelling. This slide comes from a set on the activities of the King’s African Rifles battalions in Nyasaland. It was originally held by the Church of Scotland, and generated by J.W MacKay.
