Caption on verso: "Lesotho, the former British dependency of Basutoland, became independent on 4 October 1966. It is an African state without white settlers or land-owners and is completely land-locked by the surrounding Republic of South Africa. The land is arid and mountainous and covers an area of 11,716 square miles with a population of about 900,000 people. Livestock raising is the main industry and wool and mohair the chief exports."
