Employees of the Fisheries Department were based at Nsama, with local housing provided for them and their families, oversaw and regulated the fishing industry at Lake Mweru Wantipa (around twenty miles away) and also monitored trucks carrying fish out of the District as they passed through the village. The man on the right is holding a fairly good-sized dried fish (tilapia, "pale" in the Bemba language). Without ice or refrigeration, fish need to be dried in the sun on racks, or smoked, in order to be transported long distances without spoiling. 6843 - from a black slide box (Part 3)
