Most fishermen on Lake Mweru Wantipa use nets to collect their catches. The nets can be as long as a half mile and around three or four feet wide. The tops of the nets have floats, such as cork, and the bottoms are weighted, often with small stones. The nets thereby float upright, creating a larger surface to catch fish in their mesh. The nets are often splayed out near sunset and collected in the morning. The fisherman in the photo is riding in a dugout, made from a solid wood log. 6840-08 Kaputa - Nsama LMWT boat 1976
