Spent Christmas day at the President's house with no other guests, but a "really delightful tree." Nkrumah, his children, and family. A building is being set up for the Encyclopedia Africana staff. Du Bois delivered "a stunning address" to the Academy of Sciences before Christmas -- "they rather expected, he said, that the 'Old Man' had come here to sort of twiddle his thumbs. Instead, he outlined a program for that Encyclopaedia which has sent them off in a dozen directions. He said exactly what he wanted and quick!"
