Paddling from Kanakakonge village through a narrow channel of marsh on the way to open waters of Lake Mweru Wantipa

1983

Lake Mweru Wantipa had been a large, seasonal wetland until around 1960, when government workers cut channels from the Kalungwishi River, making the marshy region into a large, perennial lake. In 1983, Mweru Wantipa was a major source of fish for the local and distant areas. 6842-05 October: Mukupa Katandula / Kanakakonge, Kasangole / Kaputa Salt Camp, Houses at MK 1983
