Carrier Corps resting, Zambezia, July 1918

1918

“Resting.” Exterior view showing porters and soldiers sitting amongst baggage as part of the column arrives. The porters are part of the Carrier Corps and the soldiers are probably from the 4/4 KAR who were on the column to which Capt. Irvine was posted. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya.
