"Mr Ainsworth Gov. Official and German". Portrait of two men sitting at the entrance to a wattle building, both have glasses in their hands. On the left is John Ainsworth (1864-1946) the colonial administrator who became the Chief Native Commissioner in 1918. The man on the right is possibly Dr Uffman. The Kikuyu mission was established in 1898 by Thomas Watson, the Church of Scotland took on responsibility for the mission after his death in 1901. This image is from a collection of photographs which possibly belonged to Dr Karl Uffman, son of Dr Henry Uffman of the Leprosy Asylum in Purulia, West Bengal. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and joined the Kikuyu mission from 1901 to 1905.
