Tame Kudu, Lumbo, Mozambique, 1918

1918

“A tame Koodoo bull at Lumbo – the mainland of P.E.A. near Mozambique.” Portrait of a male Kudu antelope. Lt. Irvine was on board the S.S. Salamis which was transporting troops to Portuguese East Africa and had stopped over at Lumbo. ❧ The image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in German East Africa and Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During this time he would meet Dr John W Arthur which in turn would lead to his missionary work at Chogoria in Kenya.
