“Leprosy patients.” ‘Mwaria in January 1950 after a year’s [sulphone] treatment.’ Portrait of an indigenous man showing improved symptoms of leprosy. Chogoria had a dedicated leper’s ward, funded by the Mission to Lepers, which was situated on a spur of land called Gatheru. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1928-1961 at the Chogoria mission which was established in 1922.
