Railway station, Kikuyu, Kenya, 1918

1918

“Kikuyu natives on railway platform.” Group portrait of indigenous people in traditional dress gathered outside the railway station office. Lt. Irvine visited the Church of Scotland mission at Kikuyu when he was stationed near Kisumu. ❧ The image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in German East Africa and Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During this time he would meet Dr John W Arthur which in turn would lead to his missionary work at Chogoria in Kenya.
