“Mac’s house.” Exterior view of a bungalow, next to a thatched hut, which is probably the accommodation of Mr & Mrs Macpherson. Mr Robert Macpherson was the Head teacher at Chogoria and supervisor of out-schools from 1930-1940 and was in charge of the station during Dr Irvine’s furloughs. He became Moderator of the General Assembly and authored ‘The Presbyterian Church in Kenya’ (1970). Mrs Alta Macpherson was the daughter of Rev William P Knapp, of the Gospel Missionary Society of America based at Kambui, Kiambu District, where she ran the ‘big girls work’. ❧ Image from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the early years of the Chogoria mission, established near Mt Kenya in 1922 and run by Dr Irvine, ministering to the Chuka and Mwimbi peoples.
