"Kirche in Elim. (Br. Kunick.)." ("Church in Elim. (Br[other] Kunick."). In the center a high church building. On its left side hangs a church bell. Next to the church a road with either a woman or girl standing on it. A row of trees on the left and houses in the left backround. On the far right in the foreground of the picture a man of European origin with a white beard and a dark hat, coat and trousers. Imprinted on the image: "Kirche in Elim. Süd-Afrika. West. No. 410." ("Church in Elim. South Africa. West. No. 410."). Cf. photo no. 1717. -- Photo no. 1717 shows the church from the same perspective but from a longer distance. -- Photography faded. -- The picture probably shows Heinrich August Kunick (born 1829 in Modlau, 1898 returned, died 1907 in Herrnhut) who served as chief missionary in Elim from 1872 until 1898. It is also possible that the picture shows Friedrich Wilhelm Kunick (born 1839 in Modlau, died 1901 in Mamre) who was a missionary in Mamre from 1874 to 1883 and from 1897 to 1901.
