Carl Jonas (1824-1906), born in Duinfontein near Elim and died in Genadendal, was assistant minister of the Moravian mission in South Africa, for example at Enon in 1875. He was one of the first students of the Training School in Genadendal in H. P. Hallbeck’s time and soon became a school principal. In 1845 he went to Houtkloof. Jonas was ordained in Enon on 28th January 1883 and became a full-time minister. He served as a minister in Enon from 1882-1884. In 1882 he was called to the new mission station of Pella where he served for 10 years, as a minister from 1886-1894. Before he retired in 1897, he served as minister in Wittewater for three years from 1896-1898. His second wife was a grandchild of Wilhelmina Stompjes from Shiloh. [Inheritance Marx families]
