"Mission Station Kikuyu". Exterior view of two of the buildings at the Kikuyu mission station with material for rethatching piled outside. The mission to the Akikuyu [Kikuyu people] was at Kikuyu, in the Thogoto district, near Nairobi. The mission was established by Thomas Watson in 1898 and responsibility taken on by the Church of Scotland, in 1901, after his death. This image is from a collection of photographs which possibly belonged to Dr Karl Uffman, son of Dr Henry Uffman of the Leprosy Asylum in Purulia, West Bengal. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and joined the Kikuyu mission in Kenya, from 1901 to 1905.
