Church, Kikuyu, Kenya, ca.1911

“After passing Mrs Watson’s house on the left, you come to the Church, which is built of iron, it’s roof being painted red, while the inside is lined with beautiful cedar wood from our own forest. It holds from 200 to 300 people.” Exterior view of a mission church, a number of indigenous Kikuyu people are working in the foreground harvesting a crop and a missionary worker stands watching. ❧ "This Lecture was prepared by Dr J.W. Arthur in October 1911 on his voyage to Mombasa. The set of slides is the gift to the Kikuyu Mission of the Young Peoples Meeting at the Burgh Hall, Hillhead, of which he was for many years a member." A green folder marked 'Kikuyu' and containing lecture notes and relevant photographs to accompany lantern slides.
