Gustav Theodor Tietzen (1893-1973) was born in Berthelsdorf near Herrnhut and worked as a missionary in Elim and Moravian Hill (Cape Town) from 1922 to 1927 and in East Africa from 1927 to 1939. He later returned to South Africa West to work as a missionary from 1959 to 1960 before he went back to Germany.
