"Houtkloof: Vor der Bazar-Eröffnung. Rechts Br. Tietzen mit einigen Frauen im Gespräch." ("Houtkloof: Before the opening of the bazaar. [On] [the] right Br[other] Tietzen engaged in a conversation with some women."). The picture shows small groups of people, men, women and children of mainly African origin standing and talking. There are also people walking around on the left and right parts of buildings. On the left in the back a shed. Written on the card board: "17.2.34. P. Theile." Gustav Theodor Tietzen (1893-1973) was born in Berthelsdorf near Herrnhut and worked as a missionary in Elim and Moravian Hill (Cape Town) from 1922 to 1927 and in East Africa from 1927 to 1939. He later returned to South Africa West to work as a missionary from 1959 to 1960 before he went back to Germany.
