“The beginning – October 1922. This house was built by Mr Carr before we went out, the timber & iron being transported 150 m. by ox-carts. Kenya is faintly visible behind & to the right of the house. It was to be our family home for 39 ½ years.” Exterior view of the Irvine family’s home in Chogoria which was built by Mr Ernest Carr, father of Mrs Margaret Joyce Irvine and financier of the mission. ❧ Image from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the early years of the Chogoria mission, established near Mt Kenya in 1922 and run by Dr Irvine, ministering to the Chuka and Mwimbi peoples.
