Mputi, outstation of Baziya, South Africa East, 1933-12-11

Der Häuptling sitzt mit gesenktem Haupt er ist Heide, wie alle unten sitzenden" ("Mputi, outstation of Baziya. Two heathen counsellors of the chief Zwelibangile (cp. North and South, Dec. 33) one is addressing an assembly at the returned B. Blohm. The chief is sitting with a lowered head he is a heathen like all others sitting on the ground"). A group of people: Two men standing wrapped in blankets or draperies, wearing hats. Two other men are sitting on chairs, wearing hats. One of them is lowering his head. Other men are sitting on the ground, wearing hats and draperies. c.f. picture no. IMP-HRN-BOX-SAO-5-09472. Paul Albert Theile, born in 1908 in Niesky (Germany), was a theologian and preacher. He was no missionary in Africa, but went on an educational journey to East Africa in 1933 and to South Africa in 1934. He was a mission deputy in Montmirail (France) from 1934 till 1938. In 1948 he married Susette Schmidt. After 1962 he was director of the Moravian Church in Switzerland. He died in 1995 in Birsfelden (near Basel / Switzerland).
