Photograph was retouched, especially Bachmann and both Africans on the left, as well as some of the equipment. -- The picture was probably taken during Bachmann's stay in Nyasa between 1908 and 1916. -- Emil Karl Bachmann (1875-1940) and his wife Elisabeth Marie Bachmann (1885-?) were missionaries of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine from 1908-1916. During that time they stayed in Isoko (1908-1910), Rutenganio (1910), Mwaja (1910-1912) and Rungwe (1912-1916). For the following three years they were British prisoners of war. After they were released, they became missionaries of the Berlin Mission.
